DescriptionGillian Ayres was an influential painter, printmaker and teacher in England. She created energetic and colourful abstract paintings on a grand scale. Cusp II was owned by the Irish artist Patrick Scott, who lent the painting to an exhibition of paintings and sculptures from private collections at Hugh Lane Gallery in 1965. His estate later gave the work to the gallery.
