DescriptionThis is a collage piece. The paper, on which the rest of the composition is applied, is rough and slightly yellowed. It has been torn in a horizontal straight line on the lower right side, from the right edge almost to the centre. There are pencil markings along the line of the tear, suggesting that it was the artist who tore the paper. There are two further vertical pencil lines stretching from the tear upwards to the top edge of the paper. There are another two diagonal pencil lines joined at right angles in the middle of the collage. In the centre and at the top is a square piece of gold leaf, but it is torn and jagged. The gold leaf has become tarnished and green. Around the gold leaf is a stain, perhaps glue, about two centimetres wider all around than the gold leaf. Below this is a second piece of gold leaf, again tarnished and green with a similar stain surrounding it, however, there is also a piece of paper stuck over this. The stain has seeped through the second piece of paper and as a result the paper has become transparent. The stain has dripped down the entire length of the paper forming two thin vertical lines. There are two vertical white stripes dividing the paper into three, they appear to have occurred as a result of folding. On View
