DescriptionLocated in the medieval heart of Dublin close to Christchurch Cathedral, Winetavern Street originally derived its name from the many drinking establishments located there. Painted in Kernoff's distinctive, almost naïve-like, style, he shows contemporary life of ordinary Dubliners and reveals a clear affection for his subject matter. Clothes shops and hatters form the main business of Winetavern Street when painted by Kernoff and he shows in detail the shop fronts and original tri-partite sash windows which add to the life and distinctive character of the street. Kernoff painted many scenes of daily life which are full of interesting, incidental details. Another version of this view, Winetavern Street, July resembles the Hugh Lane painting very closely with slight variation in dress of the people pushing the cart up the hill and additional details such dogs or a chair outside a shop front.On View
